LIF - Life Income Fund or locked-in retirement income fund is like a RRIF, but is for money that originally came from a pension plan. The funds are held in either a locked-in retirement account (LIRA) or a locked-in RRSP and then converted to a LIF.
LIRA - Locked-In Retirement Account - LIRAs hold pension money. and is designed for accumulation of pension money outside a pension plan. If you do not need income from your pension funds, then a LIRA allows you to manage your pension funds personally.
